Visakhapatnam: Urban migration and the rapid growth in the cities in India has been creating challenges for planners and there is urgent need to address the genuine needs of the people in a systemic manner. Officials of various departments with lot of coordination with people and others would make Vizag a livable city before it turns smart city, said MD of Atria Convergence Technologies Pvt. Ltd Sunder Raju during a conference on smart solutions for smart cities organised by Andhra Pradesh Technology Development and Promotion Centre (APTDC) and Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) here on Friday.
Mr Sunder Raju said that there are various aspects in smart cities. In terms of information technology, a smart city is a city that is completely digitised. He said that we need to urbanise 30 million people in the coming decade due to rapid urbanisation and there are lot of challenges in front of us which are to be addressed.
Inaugurating the conference, joint collector J. Nivas said to transform the urban landscape, the government has launched Smart Cities Mission for the benefit of people from all the sectors. Smart Cities provide enhanced quality of living, drives economic growth benefiting all sections and promotes clean and sustainable environment and provides better services for citizens.
He also briefed on the efforts of AP government’s plans for making smart cities and efforts in providing better infrastructure like Vizag Metro, international airports and Greenfield airport in various cities across Andhra Pradesh. He said AP is a pioneer in Aadhaar-enabled services, e-Offices and e-Governance.
In his special address, deputy head of Mission in Hyderabad and head of Trade and Investment, British Deputy High Commission, Hyderabad, Abhilash Puzha-kara said that UK is a pioneer in providing urban infrastructure and London underground, which is 150 years old. He also briefed on technology advancements in UK in providing effective sustainable urban infrastructure, smart city technologies and emphasised that UK is willing to collaborate with India in terms of Smart Cities Mission.
