Hyderabad: In a major burglary on Sunday night burglars entered a house in Arunodaya Colony of LB Nagar by removing the window grills and fled with goldjewellery weighing around 450 grams and a kg of silver and Rs 25,000. The house owner and his family were sleeping in the house when the incident occurred. The family heard the noise and raised an alarm, but the thieves fled.

LB Nagar police said the theft occurred in the house of Gadwal Pratap, a native of Kurnool. He retired as the superintendent of the Sessions Court in Allagadda in Kurnool district and is staying on road No: 2, Arunodaya Colony, Nagole, along with his wife, mother and children. His elder son is working in Malaysia while his younger son Kiran is an advocate, police said.

On the night of the break-in Pratap was sleeping in the hall and his wife, elder daughter-in-law and her children were asleep in the main bedroom. Anil and his wife were sleeping in another room.

“My wife suddenly saw a shadow moving at the door. She shouted and I told her there was no thief. But when we looked we found the window grill open.

Meanwhile, my daughter-in-law came out saying that the gold was missing from the almirah,” said Mr Pratap. The dog also could not detect the thief. Police suspect a professional behind the burglary. The Clues team and sniffer dogs were pressed into action. Police are verifying CCTV footages available in the area.

“He first cut the window mesh and then tried to open the door from inside with using a bamboo. We suspect that he jumped off the compound wall and entered it from behind,” said detective inspector Vijay Kumar.
