Hyderabad: Heritage enthusiasts have asked the culture department to rename the YSR State Museum after Dr Ghulam Yazdani, the first director of archaeology. The museum was named after YSR on September 9, 2009.

Originally the museum was called the Hyderabad Museum. In 1950 the government named it as State Museum. After the sudden death of Chief Minister Y.S. Rajashekar Reddy the department of Archeology renamed it as YSR State Museum. There were allegations that the department did not follow rules while renaming it in 2009 after YSR. An RTI application that was filed did not get any response.
