Chennai: Wife of a serving IPS officer in the city has petitioned the police commissioner alleging dowry harassment and mental torture by her officer husband and in-laws. The petition was also forwarded to the DGP’s office, police sources said.
In an e-mail complaint to the police commissioner, the wife of Deputy Commissioner of Police (Head quarters), Santosh Kumar, has alleged that her husband subjected her to cruelty since the day of her marriage until she recently left home on June 11th this year.
“Soon after marriage, my husband started expressing his open displeasure at not receiving the dowry commensurate with his IPS tag and humiliated me. During the eleven years of my marriage, my husband denied gave any maintenance,” according to the petition.
She also claimed that she had to take up part time jobs in colleges to provide for her nine-year-old son’s educational expenses. In her petition, she has requested the police commissioner “to take a very strong cognisance of this matter and grant me justice”.
