Hyderabad: The Hyderabad High Court on Monday dismissed nominated MLA Elvis Stephenson’s petition seeking recusal of Justice B. Siva Shankar Rao from hearing the petition of Jerusalem Mathaiah for quashing criminal cases in the cash-for-vote case.

In a further setback, Justice Shankar Rao, while dismissing Mr Stephenson’s plea, held the petitioner liable to be punished for criminal contempt of court. The judge directed the Registry to issue contempt proceedings against the MLA under Section 14 of the Contempt of Courts Act and the relevant Rules. Justice Rao directed the Registry to take permission from the Chief Justice if required, and start proceedings.
