Self -proclaimed sorcerer arrested for deception
Anwarullah could easily divert the attention of the victims and their family
Hyderabad: West Zone police arrested a self proclaimed sorcerer for cheating common people in parts of the old city. The man Anwarullah Khan, known as Disco Baba, used to plant fake gold ornaments in his targets’ house and pretend to ‘unearth the treasure’.
He took a large amount from them and gave the unearthed fake gold to the victim. In four cases, he extorted a whopping Rs 16 lakh from victims in Shahinayathgunj, Kulsumpura, Habeeb Nagar, and Asif Nagar, police said.
Anwarullah, a resident of Jirrah of Tappachabutra, sang and danced in local wedding functions and earned the name Disco Baba. Through various techniques, he used to convince the victims that he was capable of curing any disease.
With knowledge of basic tricks of street magic, Anwarullah could easily divert the attention of the victims and their family, and plant fake gold ornaments inside a pit he dug.
“He approached people stating he would cure diseases, and convince them about his powers. During the treatment, he would declare that he sensed the presence of treasure in the victim’s house,” said Shahinayathgunj inspector M. Rama Krishna.
One of the victims, Shaikh Khalid from Chudi Bazaar, found out the gold was fake and alerted the police. Cops recovered money, motorbikes, and gold items worth '3 lakh from him.
