3 year sentence for gangster Aneesh Antony

The case was registered by the Panangad police against under the Arms Act

Maradu Aneesh, accused in the attack against Bhai Nazeer being brought to the court in Kochi on Tuesday.

Kochi: Aneesh Antony alias Maradu Aneesh, a notorious gangster in Kochi, was sentenced to three years of rigorous imprisonment by the Ernakulam Additional District sessions court in the case connected with the attack against his rival gangster Bhai Nazeer.

The court had earlier found Aneesh guilty under various sections of the Arms Act and executing the attack in planned manner by forming an unlawful assembly. 

Aneesh, currently lodged in a jail in Tamil Nadu, was brought to the court in the afternoon amidst tight police security. Since Aneesh had already spent about two and half years in prison during the trial period he needed only to serve the remaining period in the prison.

The case is connected with incident of an attack against Nazeer in January 2007 by the gang members loyal to Aneesh. The case was registered by the Panangad police against under the Arms Act. 

Nazeer, belonging to Nettoor near Panangad and Aneesh from Maradu are accused in several cases of extortion, theft and dacoity.  The two were also accused in cases of attempted murder.

The rivalry between the two gangsters intensified after Sinoj, considered as the right hand man of Aneesh, was killed in a shoot-out with Tamil Nadu Police in 2012.

Aneesh suspected that the rival gang was responsible for giving the information to the Tamil Nadu police. The fight between the members of the two gangs had even hit the trial of the case.

The trial was disrupted in December 201, 2013 after the members of the two gangs clashed in the court premises.
