Hyderabad: Traffic violators in Cyberabad limits might need to look out for ‘body cameras’ on traffic cops, as getting away with a minor offence and arguing to escape, might not yield results anymore.
After experiencing frequent incidents of arguments, allegations and misbehaviour by traffic rule violators, cops are now putting on ‘body cameras’ to capture and record each violator being approached.
Cyberabad traffic police collects 50 per cent of the fines on the spot (remaining 50 per cent is collected as e-challans) which leaves a lot of scope for arguments and allegations from violators.
The ‘body cameras’ will allow the cops to validate each and every offence, as the cameras will keep recording live movements on roads. Currently, a large number of offences are going unaccounted for as a mandatory photograph for each challan is required according to an internal rule.
“We will be giving ‘body cameras’ to all the SIs on the roads, apart from putting cameras on our cranes, to enhance vigilance. In many instances, the violator makes an allegation on the cops. In such situations, the ‘body cameras’ on our men, which will record everything live, can be of help. The cameras on cranes meanwhile will allow us to keep watch on our men too,” said, Cyberabad DCP (Traffic), Avinash Mohanty.
