Demand to tame Untamed & uncut
The visual report published on Jan 20, 2009, bemoans ill-treatment of jumbos in India
ALAPPUZHA: A six-year-old horrific Animal Planet video on YouTube showing a violent elephant brutally killing two men on a fit of rage continues to dent the image of India globally. Over five crore people across the globe have watched the 3.34-minute video under Untamed and Uncut.
The incident took place during a church festival on the premises of Chettuva Government School on March 18, 2007. The visual report published on Jan 20, 2009, bemoans ill-treatment of jumbos in India.
The report says the elephants in India during three-week pre-musth period are tied between two massive trees to keep them hurt themselves or anybody else so that fluid can drain into mouth from brain easily. In many cases it creates extremely dangerous situation as these keepers and mahouts either ignore or miss the warning signs, the video report says.
Apart from this, the video also shows a violent elephant broadsiding another on the festival grounds with its tusks and trunks chaffing him into the walkway of the school building.
The tragic drain of terror, which lasted for two hours, left two people dead and 24 others injured.
Elephant rights activist V. K. Venkitachalam said the authorities should take steps for immediate removal of such uncut horror video from cyber space.
“The Munsiff Court, Thrissur on April 3, 2008, had turned down the bid of a prominent Malayalam entertainment channel to make a documentary based on this incident saying such sensational videos would only help demean the modern society,” he said.
The law says publicising such type of inhuman videos is prohibited. But access of this video right across the spectrum has defamed India’s image.
YouTubian Joyce Codelana says: They deserve it for making fun of those poor and helpless animals using them for a living, just for the benefits of selfish people. Remember, sooner or later, they will take their revenge and want to kill perpetrators!
