Nellore: Child handed over to parents after protest
Couple paid Rs 9,000 and expressed their inability when the hospital gave bill for Rs 63,000

Nellore: Parents left their 19-day-old girl child in the hospital where she was born because of their inability to pay the bill at Nellore. The couple, Kasthuramma and Seenaiah belongs to Mettu in Chittamuru mandal of SPSR Nellore district. Kasthuramma gave birth in the seventh month of pregnancy to a girl child in a private nursing home near RTC bus stand in Nellore 19 days ago.
The child was shifted to ICU since she was very weak after the couple agreed to bear Rs 1,000 per day for the treatment. The couple paid Rs 9,000 and expressed their inability when the hospital gave bill for Rs 63,000 and demanded payment. They left the baby in the hospital as they had no other means. In this backdrop, relatives of the couple and their villagers came to the hospital and paid Rs 10,000 they pooled but the management stuck to its demand.
Irked by this, the staged a dharna before the hospital. The management relented and discharged the baby after the relatives paid Rs 15,000.
