I am only picking films that interest me: Rannvijay Singha
The actor talks about movies, reality shows and hosting with Sunny Leone
Rannvijay Singha will join Sunny Leone, this season on MTV Splitsvilla. Telling us about how he came on board Rannvijay says, “I liked the concept that people are competing with each other but having fun at the same time, everyone’s happy. It was really hot in Goa, where we shot. The show is such that fights happen between contestants so you have to always be on your feet but the end result is worth it.”
About replacing Nikhil Chinappa, Rannvijay says, “I had done the first season and handed over the baton to Nikhil. This time he had work so he handed the show back to me. Hamare beech yeh chalta rehta hai. We are all a family, and in anycase he is doing another show for MTV.”
About his look on the show the host says, “My look is very Bohemian, cool and baggy shirts. The male contestants on the show would be dressed up all the time, so if I did too, it would look like I am competing with them. It was Goa so a lot of funky hats and caps, have been included in my look.”
Talking about the films he is being offered, Rannvijay says, "I have done two films as the lead, 3 am and Sharafat Gayi Tel Lene, both didn’t do well at the box office. Now I’ve done a film Mango with Abbas Tyrewala. The films I get offered are ones that I have an important role but they don’t get released or ones where I don’t have much to do but they are 100 crore types. So I’m avoiding those and only picking films that interest me. Mango also has my brother Harman in it. I am also doing a short film that is action based, I've been getting a lot of action based roles after Pukaar. Pukaar was like shooting 12 films together. Pukaar again may have not done great but it got me a different set of audience. My audience were the Roadies ones, now suddenly I have aunties recognizing me. I was also offered Nach Baliye, but when I dance, I want to do it properly in a film, not on TV.”
Biopics are the latest trend in Bollywood, would Rannvijay want to do one? “I would love to play Yuvraj Singh onscreen, since I know him from a young age, inside out but Yuvraj says ‘Koi tagda hero leke aao,” laughs Rannvijay.
How did his wife feel about him shooting with Sunny? "Both Sunny and Priyanka have grown up abroad so they had a lot to bond over and have become good friends."
