Hyderabad: A 17-year-old girl committed suicide after her co-workers harassed her for sexual favours. The girl, who was working in a cloth store, set herself on fire in her house and succumbed on Wedne-sday. Her parents alleged that three men were harassing her for the last 15 days.
The deceased, a resident of Maisammanagar, had joined Sriram Dresses at KPHB Colony two weeks ago. “From the first day her co-workers started harassing and ragging her since she was new. They used to talk in obscene language,” her relative Venkateswarulu said.
On June 26, she came home and set herself afire after pouring kerosene over her body. She was shifted to Gandhi Hospital for treatment, but succumbed on Wednesday, her relatives said. One day before the attempted suicide, her mother confronted the co-workers on this issue.
Police suspect that co-workers had tried to molest her or touched her inappropriately. In the police complaint, the parents alleged that the accused people threatened her against informing about the incident to others.
