Hyderabad: The AP government is gearing up for cultivation of exotic vegetables like lettuce, cherry, tomatoes, red and yellow capsicums and zucchini on its soil.
The state government has decided to set up 75 polyhouses across the districts of Guntur, Vizag, Kadapa and Anantapur. Already, one such project is successful in Anantapur where a student of M.Sc in food technology started cultivation of red and yellow capsicum in over 1,000 square meter of polyhouse and got a good yield.
Taking this as a cue, the state government wants to emulate such polyhouses across the four districts. Those involved in such cultivation will be provided training in Hyderabad.
As of now, most of the demand for exotic vegetables in hotels across cities like Hyderabad and Vizag is met by exotic vegetables brought from Bengaluru. The horticulture department aims to cater to this demand through cultivating exotic vegetables in AP.
