BENGALURU: It was a proud moment for the Bengaluru city police and traffic police department after the city’s top cop M.N. Reddi was invited as a panelist on ‘#Rise with Twitter’ on the occasion of social media day held in Mumbai on Tuesday.

As a people friendly measure, the Commissioner took to Twitter around nine months ago to make the city police accessible to the people round the clock. With a massive following of over 2.8 lakh followers, the Bengaluru City Police has become the only police force in the country to have used disruptive nature of social media to connect with the youth.

Sharing his experience with this newspaper, Reddi said, “It was a proud moment for us. I was invited as one of the panelist to share my experience on the occasion of social media day. Accessibility to the police in India is a major concern and I am happy that we addressed the issue and managed to instill a sense of security in our citizens. In the past nine months, I have gone from becoming the police commissioner to being the ‘people’s commissioner’ and the people feel more secure. They know that the police are there to safeguard them and they can reach out to us with out any hassle.”

He further said, “I shared my experience with the large audience in Mumbai as to how actively the Bengaluru City Police is making best use of social media in policing and the response was phenomenal.”
