Kozhikode: The Kozhikode corporation authorities have decided not to install the pending e- toilets in the city as  the public have rejected them saying they are not user-friendly.

The  project was initiated in  Kozhikode city limits in  2010  spending over Rs 1 crore.

The public are not using the facility  in spite of publicity  through various sources,  including the media. The e-toilet facility was introduced  by Erams Solution, which during the first phase installed one unit each at Beypore, Beach, Pavangad, Karaparamba, near head post office and Cheruvannur. The other set was later installed at Muthalakulam, stadium and lorry stand.

“One major problem was getting stuck inside the e- toilet due to some technologies used in it,”  said Ravindran, a worker at Palayam market. Fearing to get locked inside, the  people stopped using the toilets and many times they complained of  lack of water.

The surroundings of many e- toilets, especially the those at Sarovaram and Beach had turned into garbage pits  with people dumping waste there. Each unit was installed  at a cost of Rs 5 lakh.
