One dead, 30 hurt in KSRTC bus accident

A student of Kadayiruppu senior secondary school has been seriously injured

Kochi: One person was killed and 30 others injured when a KSRTC bus lost control and rammed into a tree at Panikkarukudy near Kolencherry in Ernakulam district.

Police said the mishap occurred by 7.15 am when the front tyre of the bus which was on its way to Muvattupuzha from Vyttila burst.

The deceased has been identified as Tommy Joseph, 53, a native of Pala who has been residing at Kakkanad. The injured persons were admitted to the Kolenchery Medical College hospital. A student of Kadayiruppu senior secondary school has been seriously injured.

Police said they will seek expert opinion on the cause of the accident.

The front side of the bus has been completely crashed and passengers sitting on that side were seriously injured. A big sound was heard just before the bus hit the roadside tree, said the passengers.
