Water board hires excess vehicles

Many non-field officers use their own cars and claim rent of Rs 25,000 per month as rent

Hyderabad: The Water Board has hired 138 cars only 76 government vehicles are permitted, including for the managing director and other board members. The additional vehicles have been hired at a cost of Rs 34 lakh a month. Junior employees have been allocated vehicles.

Many non-field officers use their own cars and claim rent of Rs 25,000 per month as rent for the vehicles. In the GHMC, as per records, about 101 government vehicles were allotted for field officers. But as per the information furnished by the executive engineer (transport wing) at present, the corporation has hired additional 319 vehicles for staff that does not do any field work.

The Water Board is also spending Rs 34 lakh for additional cars per month. As per the rule, government vehicles are provided only to officials with field work. The information was revealed through an query filed under the RTI by the city-based Forum for Good Governance.
