New JEE Main rankers to get extra seats in Telangana
The student would be issued a fractional rank of 101.1
Hyderabad: Supernumerary seats will be created for students getting fractional ranks if they deserve, The Central Seat Allocation Board authorities assured.
The CSAB has asked the JEE Main unit of the Central Board of Secondary Education to issue fractional ranks to students whose Inter marks are missing.
Ranks of all Telangana students, whose Inter marks are missing, will be freshly calculated and they will be given ‘fractional ranks.’
Deputy CM Kadiam Srihari said that after fresh calculation if a student’s rank falls between 100 and 101, the student would be issued a fractional rank of 101.1. These students can exercise their options in the JoSAA counselling.
However, the sticking point is that the JEE Main ranks are calculated by a normalisation procedure using the student’s InterPercentile score.
If marks of the 1,188 students are added now, the percentile scores of all Telangana Inter Board students would change and consequently the entire JEE Main rank list itself will change. Since that can’t be done, CSAB officials said deserving students will be given supernumerary seats.
Again, if there is a tie with a student who is already in the first JEE Main rank list announced on Wednesday, the student will still be issued a fractional rank of 100.1 but will be considered at par with the 100 ranker.
