Mother dies due to profound blood loss after delivering baby near bus stand

Coimbatore: A newborn male baby of an Aids patient was found dead inside a plastic cover in the vicinity of Pollachi bus stand where the mother was earlier found bleeding and unconscious. According to sources, the public found a 40-year-old woman bleeding and in an unconscious state at the Pollachi bus stand. They immediately called for an ambulance and she was taken to the Pollachi GH were prelimnary investigations revealed that she had just then delivered a baby. As the delivery had reportedly happened without any assistance she had been bleeding profusely and the uterus had not shrunk. The excessive bleeding had resulted in her fainting.
The hospital staff, who took a blood test as a routine procedure, ascertained that she was HIV-positive. In a matter of hours, the lady died due to loss of blood, not responding to treatment. Meanwhile the public noticed a bloodied plastic bag in the vicinity of the bus stand and were shocked to see a newborn lying dead inside.
The baby's remains were brought to the hospital and it was ascertained that the child was that of the dead woman. The police have decided to send the word around to check if someone would come forward to claim the bodies of the deceased. Police sources said that she was not clear about her native place and had mentioned both Tirupur and Erode before she died. Her statements were contradictory and she was very vague, they said.
The police would wait for a day before conducting a post mortem. Meanwhile a case has been registered to investigate if the mother knew that she had Aids and killed her child and put it inside the plastic bag before she died.
