Chhattisgarh finds its place at the bottom

New Delhi: When it comes to the telcommunications revolution, Uttar Pradesh tops the list of states with the highest mobile penetration in rural areas, while Naxal-hit Chhattisgarh finds its place at the bottom. In UP, 86.63 per cent households have mobile handsets, while only 28.47 per cent households in Chhattisgarh own the device.
Census 2011 states that the average mobile penetration in the country stood at 68.35 per cent, and UP is closely followed by Uttarakhand with 86.60 per cent mobile penetration and Sikkim with 84.90 per cent. Odisha is ranked second lowest in terms of mobile penetration, with only 33.56 per cent of households owning such gadgets.
Mr Jaitley said the data will help in better targeting of government policies. “The enormity of schemes and reaches that all governments have... this document will form the basis of helping us target groups for support in terms of policy planning,” said Mr Jaitley, while speaking to reporters. Mr Singh, on his part, said the data would help the government for better data on household growth.
