Melda Ilgun, the baby girl, started drifting into open seas in Turkey’s northwestern province of Canakkale on Friday.
Her family’s negligence and strong northern winds caused Melda to float off towards the Greek island of Lesbos.

It was only when beach goers noticed the baby that they contacted the Turkish Coast Guard. The crowd could not take any action as the child had floated 1 kilometer into the sea. Her family was still oblivious to the fact that their baby was missing. It was only after beach goers caused panic and alarm at the incident that the incident was brought to the family’s notice.
