Geeta Basra, who plays a woman on the prowl looking for a husband in Smeep Kang’s Second Hand Husband, shares screen space with real-life beau, cricketer Harbhajan Singh, who plays her groom-to-be at the end of the film.
Geeta tries to laugh off Bhajji’s special appearance as nothing special. “The film needed someone with a face and a name to step in as my character’s love-interest at the end. Bhajji agreed. That’s it.”
Is this an indication of a real-life marriage? Geeta laughs, “Please don’t read so much into it. It’s just a fun appearance, not a wedding announcement. When I get married I won’t do it chup, chup ke. Arrey, Punjabi ladki hoon Punjabi shaadi karungi khoob dhoom-dham se (I am a Punjabi girl I’ll have a lavish wedding).”
So, is she still denying their relationship? Geeta says, “I’ve never denied that Bhajji has a very special place in my life. Beyond that, when there’s more to be said, I’ll make the announcement.”
Geeta is currently busy with Punjabi films. “My next film is a Punjabi one titled Lock. It’s a remake of a Malayalam film.” Apparently, there was a lot of tension between Geeta and Govinda’s daughter Tina Ahuja, who makes her debut in Second Hand Husband, so much so that Tina, who was to appear with her father Govinda on Comedy Nights With Kapil, opted out when she saw Geeta at the venue. Geeta says, “I don’t want to say anything on this issue. Every film is a team effort and everyone involved with a film should come forward to support it.”
Geeta was asked about Harbhajan Singh on Kapil’s show. She says, “There is no escaping that angle in my life. If I got a role for every time I am asked a question about him (Bhajji) I’d be the busiest actress.”
