Rajahmundry: Police have come up with a multitier security set up to keep a close tab on pickpockets, bag lifters and chain snatchers especially at bathing ghats, railway and bus stations and at other public places during the ensuing Godavari Pushkaralu in Godavari districts.
As part of it, they are collecting the photos of pickpockets and other anti-social elements from all over the state and intend to display them in wall posters and in flexi banners at the vulnerable places alerting the devotees to be cautious about them.
The move is aimed to deter the anti-social elements as their photos get prominently displayed and their presence can be easily identified by the devotees and also by the police and help the devotees take holy dip in Godavari river and perform rituals without fearing about these elements.
The police are also bringing about handbills informing the devotees about ‘Dos and Don’ts’ from the security perspective. The police advise the women not to wear more jewellery while taking part in the rituals along with a large number of devotees as it draws the attention of the miscreants and they try to knock them away. Similarly, the police are also asking the devotees coming from far off places to secure their baggage in cloak rooms as they remain safe there instead of falling in the wrong hands.
A huge posse of police personnel will be moving among the milling crowds of devotees in mufti to keep tab on such miscreants. The police personnel who are experts in identifying the miscreants will be posted at the ghats and other public places to detect such persons and nab them.
On the other hand, the police will be closely monitoring the movement of devotees and the anti-social elements as they are arranging surveillance cameras at ghats and at public places. Senior officials at the control rooms armed with a list of names and photos of anti-social elements state-wide, will be watching carefully the feed from the cameras.
East Godavari SP M. Ravi Prakash said, “We are according top priority to ensure safety to the devotees especially from the miscreants like pickpockets, bag and chain lifters by keeping close watch in person and also through electronic surveillance. We are confident that our fool-proof arrangements will certainly deter the miscreants and make them move away.”
