Governor opens two universities for Andhra Pradesh
BR Ambedkar Open and Potti Sreeramulu Telugu Universities had asked AP to sign MoU
Hyderabad: In a move that could trigger a fresh controversy between the two states, Governor E.S.L. Narsimhan is learnt to have asked the BR Ambedkar Open and Potti Sreeramulu Telugu Universities to maintain status quo and continue offering services to Andhra Pradesh as before, for now.
The two varsities are 10th Schedule listed organisations located in Telangana. Recently, authorities of the two universities had asked the Andhra Pradesh government to enter into a MoU with the Telangana state government for them to continue offering services.
As per Section 75 of the Reorganisation Act, in the case of 10th Schedule institutions, the two state governments of AP and Telangana have to reach an agreement over providing facilities, by an institution located in one state, to the people of the opposite state. If no such agreement is reached within one year, the Centre can issue an order.
The services were to be offered without any such MoU till June 2, 2015. However, since it is over one year, BR Ambedkar Open and Potti Sreeramulu Telugu Universities had asked the AP government to enter into an agreement with the Telangana government for them to continue providing facilities to the students of AP.
Andhra Pradesh doesn’t have an Open or Telugu university as yet.
