Salem: Bike thief held, 22 vehicles seized
Accused confessed to have stolen two-wheelers in various parts of Salem

Salem: Police arrested a 31-year-old bike thief during a vehicle check and seized 22 two-wheelers from him here on Sunday.
Police said P. Kumar alias Mathivanan, 31 from Malayanur Kaadu in Omalur had been involved in several cases of bike thefts in Suramangalam, Pallapatty, Alagapuram, Sevvaipet and Annathanapatti areas.
As there were frequent incidents of two-wheeler thefts, the Salem city police commissioner A. Amalraj had formed a special team to nab the offenders. During a vehicle check, a police team led by Suramangalam inspector Kumaresan stopped Mathivannan, who was on a two-wheeler, on suspicion.
During investigations, the accused confessed to have stolen two-wheelers in various parts of Salem and selling them in Chennai. The police also seized 22 two-wheelers, mostly Hero Honda Splendour Plus from the accused, who has been lodged at the Salem Central prison.
