Khammam: Students in 35 per cent of schools in Khammam will have new teachers after July 7. About 12,000 teachers submitted their applications for transfers in the district.
However, transfers are applicable only to those teachers who have completed five years service in one place. The teachers have been lobbying to get their choice of posting, but the government is not in a position to oblige everyone. Sources said about 40 per cent fo teachers will be shifted.
An official said, “Teachers who completed eight years of service at one place will be shifted first. Later, the teachers who with five year service in a particular school will be transferred.
There is little chance of transfer for those who have completed just two years in one place.”
Secondly, the teaching in English medium will come down in many schools due to the government policy. It has been decided to continue the English medium only if the student strength is above 50. There were four to five schools in each mandal where students are being taught in English medium apart from Telugu. With the rationalisation, there would be no English medium in 60 schools in the district. The teachers’ unions demanded that the government continue the schools by appointing parallel teachers but their numbers are not enough.
