Hyderabad: Citing reasons like avoiding traffic jams, and saving fuel and time, online fruits and vegetables vendors have created a niche in Hyderabad. E-stores not only deliver vegetables and fruits, but also dairy, eggs and baked products. Demand for organic vegetables has also seen a steep rise.
Nandita Sharma, a resident of Methodist Colony, Begumpet, said, “Similar to vegetable malls, the online outlets also come up with weekly offers. For example with a purchase of Rs 500 and above, get 1 kg tomatoes free. Also, all vegetables are available. Though organic stuff at times is out of stock. Cocktail of seeds like flax seeds, watermelon seeds etc. is in demand.”
Preethi Jain, a corporate employee who lives in Kapra, said, “I place a weekly order since my husband and I both work night shifts. Earlier, we lived in Bengaluru and I was registered with an online vegetable outlet. And that company has a branch in Hyderabad as well so I didn’t have to look for one. The service is prompt and there are no complaints about quality. I even purchase dairy products.”
“The maximum time limit to deliver is 24 hours, however, it is done much before that. This week’s offer is a surprise gift on orders of fruits, vegetables and dairy products. We supply fresh and organic fruits as well; we get around 40 orders per day from across the city. We don’t charge delivery fees for nearby localities, however, for distant areas a nominal amount is added to the bill after informing the costumer. Earlier Hyderabad had two online supermarkets, but there are more than 15,” said Nitesh Mehra, owner of an online store in Secunderabad.
