New Delhi: After foreign-funded NGOs, the NDA government is now tightening the visa regime to plug gaps to avoid a re-run of the David Headley episode where the Lashkar-e-Tayyaba agent used a five-year multiple-entry business visa to reconnoitre the 26/11 targets. It has come to the notice of the home ministry that foreigners coming on tourist visa are indulging in business activities.
The MHA is now keeping an eye on all such persons who enter the country using the recently-launched electronic visa-on-arrival (ETV) facility to do “casual business”, but may be misusing this facility.
“Such persons cannot do full-time business. Once we have all their details, including biometrics, through the ETV, our agencies will be able to detect those persons who are misusing this facility” an MHA official said.
