Chennai: Apprehending arrest, international volleyball player, M. Naveen Raj Jacob, 28, who has been accused of cheating his estranged girl friend, has approached a sessions court here seeking anticipatory bail.

Following complaint from N. Priyanka (26), also a former international volleyball player from Bengaluru, the T. Nagar All Women Police registered case against Naveen under under sections 417 (cheating), 506 (I) (criminal intimidation) IPC and section 4 of the Tamil Nadu Prohibition of Harassment of Women Act.

The complainant alleged that Naveen had cheated her after promising marriage and later threatened her. Meanwhile, her family members had fixed his marriage with the daughter of a Coimbatore-based police officer on July 13. T. Nagar All Women’s Police Station (AWPS) last week and let off after enquiry. Priyanka, now a sports trainer, alleged that she was in a live-in relationship with Naveen since February 2010 and they visited several places.

R.C. Paul Kanagaraj, petitioner’s counsel, said Naveen was innocent and he was having friendly relations with her. The allegations were false. When the matter came up before the III additional sessions court, judge A. Kayalvizhi adjourned the matter to Tuesday.
