Karunanidhi criticises Centre for delaying caste census
Delay by the authorities will not do any good for Other Backward Classes
Chennai: DMK president M. Karunanidhi on Monday criticised the Centre and the National Statistical Commission for delaying the release of caste census taken up in 2011.
In a statement, he said that there was a demand to formulate new schemes based on the caste census. “The previous such census was done in 1934 and when the government can release the census findings related to social economical parameters I don’t understand the delay for releasing the findings of caste census,” Karunanidhi said.
Despite demand from political parties in Tamil Nadu and also from other states, the centre is delaying in sharing the caste census data and there is a need for appropriate upward revision in existing reservation policies.
The caste data should be released immediately. Delay by the authorities will not do any good for Other Backward Classes, he said adding that political parties including Congress and PMK like DMK were demanding for the early release of all census parameters.
