Hyderabad: Residents of Malkajgiri have strongly objected to merging parts of the locality with the Alwal circle as part of delimitation of wards for the GHMC elections.

At present Vivekananda Puram, Ammuguda, Asha Officers Colony and parts of RK Puram are connected to Malkajgiri and it would be very difficult for these residents to travel to Alwal GHMC office for any work.

“Roads to Alwal from these colonies have been barricaded by the Army. When it comes to administering these areas, it would very difficult or the Alwal GHMC circle office to maintain roads, look after sanitation and curb illegal constructions,” state residents.

B.T. Srinivas, general secretary of the Federation of Resident Welfare Associations - Malkajgiri said, “Whoever has done the delimitation work has adjusted the excess voter population of Malkajgiri for the convenience of equal ward size and has proposed to merge these colonies to Alwal GHMC circle. It may be noted that the claim of moving a population of only 8,000 is not correct and it may be more than that as it is as per the 2011 consensus. If the voter population is more in Malkajgiri circle, let GHMC create and add one more to the proposed wards and distribute the existing voters equally within the Malkajgiri circle.”
