Chennai: As many as 110 resolutions were passed at the council meeting at the Chennai corporation on Monday. A special resolution appreciating the Chief Minister for finding an answer to the congested traffic in the city by introducing the metro rail was adopted. Councillors of the opposition parties staged a walkout protesting that the project was the brainchild of the DMK party leader and the idea was conceived during their regime.

The metro rail has become the ‘new address’ of Chennai, Mayor Saidai S. Duraisamy said in his speech.  Train between Washermenpet and Chennai Airport, a distance of 23.08 kilometers and Chennai Central to St. Thomas Mount, a distance of 21.96 km will also be flagged off soon, he said.

Duraisamy said his leader, the Chief Minister contributed the promised share from the state government’s fund on time every year to avoid delays in work. Enraged over this, the opposition party councillors staged a walkout for half an hour.

The Mayor also announced the signing between ‘Chennai’ and ‘Chongqing’ in China on May 15, when he went to Beijing along with the Prime Minister’s delegation.  The agreement entered will lead to an exchange of ideas about culture, education, youth development, drainage system, infrastructural, environment ties and allows officials from both the cities to visit the other city and implement the methods in theirs.
