Hyderabad: The TS government had earlier decided to put the cap at the 5,000th rank to cut the financial burden on the state exchequer which is pegged at Rs 2,500 crore per year.
In fact, Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao had even approved the file last week and orders were supposed to be released this week.
The move invited the wrath of students, BC organisations and opposition parties who threatened to intensify agitations if any fresh curbs were imposed on the scheme.
Following this the government backtracked and decided to go ahead with the earlier policy. The government is yet to issue orders prescribing the maximum income limit for various categories to avail fee reimbursement.
