50 smartest companies of 2015

MIT Technology Review’s annual research lists out the smartest companies out there

Recently, MIT Technology Review did an annual research to list out the smartest companies of 2015. The pre-requisite for a company to fall in the category were that, they must have truly innovative technology, and an empirical as well as progressive business model. It also considered the agenda that these companies have set in the last 12 months.

Following is the list of companies, according to MIT, that make in to the smartest companies:

Tesla Motors

It is an automotive and energy storage company, based in California, which was recognised as the smartest company of the world. Recently, they extended their battery technology from cars to residential and commercial applications

Xiaomi

This Chinese tech giant, is one of the most fast growing smartphone vendor. It is famously known for its ideas like flash sales over its mobiles messaging  platform.

Illumina

Illumina Inc is an American company that develops, manufactures and markets integrated systems for the analysis of genetic variation and biological function. It is recognised for shifting its fast DNA-reading machines from research applications primarily to hospitals and cancer clinics.

Alibaba

Climbing up as the world’s largest online retailer, this Chinese e-commerce giant is recognised for being able to promote a new mode of transaction amongst its customers. Alibaba conducts more than half of its transactions through its digital wallet or banking service.

Counsyl

Counsyl is a medical technology company, based in California. Its cheap DNA tests help would-be parents plan ahead. It recently started selling cancer screens as well.

SunEdison

A global renewable energy company, SunEdison has been aggressively expanding its renewable energy products with the aim to provide affordable electricity to the developing world.

Tencent

Tencent is a Chinese investment holding company whose subsidiaries provide media, entertainment, Internet and mobile phone value-added services. This one has been recognised for its expanding Internet services.

Juno Therapeutics

It is a clinical-stage company developing novel cellular immunotherapies. It gained recognition for testing revolutionary cancer treatments that use a person’s own immune cells.

SolarCity

A California based company, SolarCity is a provider of energy services. Its currently working on building a factory in Buffalo, which would be the largest manufacturer of silicon solar panels in Western Hemisphere.

Netflix

America’s on-demand Internet streaming service, is known for its innovative content, and for inking distribution deals with cable companies.
