Amit Shah to visit Madurai in mid-July
BJP national president will be on a mission to woo Nadars and Devendrakula Vellalars
Chennai: BJP national president Amit Shah scheduled to visit TN mid-July will be on a mission to woo Nadars and Devendrakula Vellalars two influential communities in the southern districts of the state. The saffron party here is excited over the BJP leader’s Temple City visit as this would help them to cash in on his visibility and connect with the voters ahead of the 2016 Assembly election to the state.
The party has always been overrun by the massive majority of the Dravidian majors for decades and has been virtually struggling to make an entry to the Assembly. Shah would address a massive gathering in Madurai at a meeting to be organised by the Nadar Mahajana Sangam – a well-known educational and charitable institution established in 1910, in connection with the birth anniversary celebration of former Chief Minister K. Kamaraj who is acknowledged as king maker in Indian politics on the morning of July 15.
Later in the day he would address the members of Devendrakula Vellalars who would felicitate him for recognising them as the descendents of Lord Indra (hence the name of Devendrakula to the caste).“The Nadar Mahajana Sangam wanted Prime Minister Narendra Modi to participate in the Kamaraj birth anniversary celebration but as he could attend Mr. Shah would participate in the function,” said Dr R. Srinivasan, state co-convenor of Swadesi Jagaran Manch (SJM) an economic wing of the Sangh Parivar. Dr Srinivasan who is instrumental in brining the caste groups says both the meetings are apolitical.
