Karnataka Lokayukta corruption case: Protesters in no mood to relent
Members of various organisations protested in front of the Lokayukta office throughout the day
BENGALURU: Protests demanding the immediate resignation of Lokayukta Justice Y. Bhaskar Rao continued even on Tuesday. Members of various organisations protested in front of the Lokayukta office throughout the day.
Members of the Janaadhikara Sangharsh Parishath, who had filed a complaint with Upalokayukta Justice Subhash B. Adi seeking a probe into the alleged corruption in the Lokayukta institution, held a protest in the morning.
They said that Justice Rao had no moral right to continue as the Lokayukta and he should step down immediately. Some transgenders too joined the agitation.
Members of the legal unit of the Karnataka Rakshana Vedike held protests demanding a CBI probe into the scandal.Veteran advocate A.K. Subbaiah, writer Agni Sridhar and others, who spoke to reporters after meeting Upalokayukta Justice S.B. Majage, said that they will not demand the Lokayukta's resignation as the probe has not started yet.
“We will definitely demand Justice Rao's resignation if the investigations proved the involvement of Justice Rao's son Ashwin in the scam. It is not fair to exert pressure on him to resign when the probe has not even started,” they said.
AAP embarrasses Lokayukta
While Justice Rao left his office and was about to get inside his car, around 20 members of the Aam Aadmi Party started shouting slogans against Justice Rao, who looked embarrassed by the unexpected development.
However, the police took away the agitators and detained them for sometime while Justice Rao left.
No differences with Adi: Majage
Upalokayukta Justice S B Majage on Tuesday clarified that he had no differences with another Upalokayukta Justice Subhash B Adi. He said that his statements were misquoted and misinterpreted by a section of media.
Justice Majage told reporters, “I am hurt by the reports carried in some newspapers. I never told I had a difference with Justice Adi. I had just told that he was taking some cases and giving directions in cases related to my jurisdiction. I never told it was illegal nor I have problem with it. But, my quotes have been misquoted and it is projected that there is no coordination between us, which is false.”
He also clarified that he was not supporting Lokayukta Justice Y Bhaskar Rao’s son Ashwin, who is an accused in the corruption case.
