SFI march turns violent, many injured

The police lathicharged the activists and burst teargas shells to disperse the students who threw stones at them

Kottayam: The march taken out by the SFI  activists to the collectorate here  on Tuesday turned violent resulting in injuries to 26 students, three  police officials and five mediapersons.  

CPM district secretary V.N. Vasavan, who was present at the scene, fainted and was admitted to the district hospital. He had earlier inaugurated the march.

The police lathicharged the activists and burst teargas  shells  to disperse the students who threw stones at them.

They were protesting against the delay in the distribution of textbooks.   

Later,  the CPM  held a  meeting at the old police station ground at Thirunakkara  protesting against the attack on the students.
