Microsoft sent most Xbox One owners in a tizzy at E3 when they announced that they will be making the Xbox 360 games backwards compatible. When this news dropped, every Xbox One owners started dreaming about how exponentially their respective game libraries were about to increase. However, three weeks down the line, a paltry 21 games have been announced as being backwards compatible.

That is not to say that this list doesn’t have heavy hitters. Some of the titles that jump right out are Mass Effect, Perfect Dark Zero, Perfect Dark and Toy Soldiers. The awesome Super Meat Boy is also added to the list, however, this is far from what fans and owners of Xbox One were hoping for when the announcement was made. So what happened?

Well, first of all, any and all third party games will only get backwards compatibility only if the publisher wants it. As has been the trend, most publishers want to make a quick buck by making remasters of their most successful games, so why would they sacrifice their revenue by making games backwards compatible?

So now, the question is which first party games will get backwards compatibility, we already know that the Halo Trilogy won’t owing to the fact that The Masterchief Collection exists. There is also word of a Gears Trilogy remaster but with The Gears Of War Ultimate Edition coming to Xbox One that won’t be happening either. That just leaves a handful of first party AAA games that can actually be made backwards compatible, like Halo Reach, Fable 2, Alan Wake to name a few. Hopefully, Microsoft will be able to get more third party publishers on board and make their games backwards compatible, I for one would love to play Red Dead Redemption on my Xbox One.
