Hyderabad: TPCC president N. Uttam Kumar Reddy on Wednesday cautioned the Muslims not to be enamoured by promises made by Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao on providing 12 per cent reservations.
He said the Chief Minister had made the promises only with an eye on Muslim votes but was not interested in the real cause of removing poverty. He was speaking at a function organised at Gandhi Bhavan in connection with appointing Mr Fakruddin as the party’s minority cell chairman.
The TPCC chief pointed out that the Chief Minister had given the assurance on providing 12 per cent reservation to Muslims a year ago but there was no movement on that front since.
“The Chief Minister is organising the Dawat-e-Iftar to please Muslims but is ignoring the promise of providing reservations which is vital for them. The Muslim community should agitate over this and the Congress will be with them,” Mr Reddy said.
PCC working president Mallu Bhatti Vikramarka said it was common knowledge that soon after the GHMC polls, the TRS would be joining the NDA. As such, the Muslim vote would be of no use to the TRS.
Leaders of Opposition K. Jana Reddy and Shabbir Ali, former PCC chief V. Hanumantha Rao, former Union minister Sarve Satyanarayana also spoke.
