Kozhikode: Wayanad Tourism Carnival starts Friday

On 7th edition of Splash, a 3-day event to be held at Vythiri Village

Kozhikode: The 7th edition of ‘Splash’, the Wayanad Monsoon Carnival will take to a start on Friday.  Tourism minister AP Anilkumar would inaugurate the three-day event at Vythiri Village at Vythiri on Saturday, the organizers said in a press conference. Minister for Scheduled Tribes Welfare PK Jayalakshmi would inaugurate the Business to Business meet organized in connection with Splash.   
 
In total 300 delegates including travel agents, travel writers and property owners would participate in the carnival, organizers said. 
 
“The highest number of delegates was registered from Maharashtra (130) and interestingly this year delegates are participating even from far-flung Kashmir”, said T Raveendran, coordinator, Splash.
 
Launched in 2009 by Wayanad Tourism Organization (WTO) a platform of stakeholders in tourism sector, during the years the tourism festival has metamorphosed into a rare blend of the ethnic and modern. 
This year Splash would focus at showcasing the tourism potential of ethnic and village life, said office bearers of WTO CP Sailesh and T Raveendran in a press conference.
 
“The village life and the aesthetic aspects of ethnic life are yet to be tapped by the tourism industry with the support of local people”, they said.
 
The finals of competitions in mud football, archery and tug-of-war would be held on Sunday. During the years Splash has hosted as many as 3500 travel operators from across the globe spending around Rs 1.5 crore for destination promotion.
