Landslide in Sakleshpur disrupts train service
Passengers were stranded for about three-and-hours
HASSAN: Passengers travelling in a train bound to Mangaluru from Bengaluru were stranded for about three-and-hours in the ghat section near Sakleshpur in Hassan district early on Wednesday following a landslide between Yedakumeri and Sirivagilu. Train services resumed after railway personnel cleared the track of debris.
At around 3.50 am on Wednesday, railway personnel on night patrol along the ghat section noticed a landslide between Yedakumeri and Sirivagilu ghat section of Sakleshpur and alerted senior officials about it. In turn, the officers communicated information about the landslide to drivers of the train proceeding from Bengaluru to Mangaluru. The upshot: the train came to a halt at a safe distance from the landslide.
Soon railway personnel swung into action and cleared the debris on the track and by 8.30 am, train service resumed between Mangaluru and Bengaluru. Mr Rajkumar Lal, division railway manager, told Deccan Chronicle the landslide occurred following heavy rainfall in the ghat section.
“We have men on night patrol duty at convenient location, and our personnel alerted the officials concerned about the landslide and our restoration work was swift and fast which ensured that train services resumed in quick time.”
Last month, a boulder rolled down and landed on the track resulting in the ghat section, resulting in temporary disruption of train service between Mangaluru and Bengaluru.
