New Delhi: Supreme Court on Wednesday dismissed a plea for setting up of a special investigating team (SIT) to probe whether the government has made any serious effort to bring to justice fugitive Dawood Ibrahim, in the wake of reports that the underworld don was willing to return.

“We cannot look into this issue. It is not for the judiciary,” a bench comprising Chief Justice H. L. Dattu and Justices Arun Mishra and Amitava Roy said.

The bench dismissed the PIL filed by Madhya Pradesh resident Kishore Samrite who through his lawyer submitted that an inquiry was needed in view of reports appearing that Dawood Ibrahim was willing to come back.

The lawyer claimed that the reports have suggested that a senior CBI officer was on record that the fugitive was willing to surrender.
