Transwoman attacked by group in Hyderabad
The TTHS activists submitted a complaint at the Dundigal police station
Hyderabad: A transwoman, who approached a shopkeeper seeking alms, was attacked with sticks and a steel mop on her head and back in which she suffered a skull concussion.
The transwoman, Bhavana, needed immediate medical attention due to skull concussions, vomiting and loss of cerebrospinal fluid, but the police did not take her to hospital, the Telangana Transgender and Hijra Samiti alleged.
On July 8, Bhavana, who lives in Suraram Colony approached Ajay Singh, a shopkeeper, for alms.
“At the sight of the transwoman, Singh, 45, started hurling abuses at her and punched her. Bhavana called her other transwomen friends. This provoked Singh and he called his son and others and the group started beating her,” said Vyjayanti Vasanta Mogli, a transgender activist who approached the police with a complaint.
Bhavana’s friends too were thrashed and a trans-woman who came to support her was stripped.
“As per information, Dundigal police took a one-sided complaint and booked the transwomen for public nuisance, trespassing, causing hurt and criminal intimidation,” Vyjayanti said.
