Council meet ends in ruckus again in Thiruvananthapuram
BJP councillors disrupted and demanded an apology from UDF councillor Mary Pushpam
Thiruvananthapuram: Corporation councillors were stuck with the term “shikhandi” (eunuch) that they ignored all other business and merrily flung the expletive at each other and came to near blows at the corporation council meeting on Thursday when the main agenda was the draft people’s plan discussion.
The LDF and UDF councillors argued, abused and shoved each other over UDF councillor Maheswaran Nair abusing Mayor K Chandrika by the term. He was only borrowing colleague Mary Pushpam’s eunuch usage against BJP leader Ashok Kumar at the previous council meeting.
The special council scheduled to finalise projects under peoples plan programme for 2015-16 ended up in a ruckus within minutes after the discussion kicked off.
BJP councillors disrupted and demanded an apology from UDF councillor Mary Pushpam. Heated arguments were exchanged between UDF and BJP and within no time Mayor K Chandrika ended the session passing the plan document.
While leaving the hall, Mr Maheswaran Nair turned against the Mayor with the ‘shikandi’ remark. LDF councillor Usha Satheesh seized on the offence and hell broke loose.
But UDF accused the ruling front and BJP of conspiring to ensure there was no discussion on the draft plan document.
He said the draft plan was given to councillors only at the council session. UDF councillors alleged there was widespread corruption in various projects undertaken by the civic body.
