Telangana requests Governor ESL Narsimhan to withdraw universities order
The Governor ordered both the varsities to maintain status quo
Hyderabad: The Telangana government has requested Governor E.S.L. Narsimhan to withdraw his directives for maintenance of status quo in the 10th Schedule listed BR Ambedkar Open and Potti Sriramulu Telugu Universities.
Citing the recent Hyderabad High Court judgement in the AP State Council of Higher Education matter, the government has told him he is being “misled by the Andhra Pradesh government” on issues related to the 10th Schedule institutions.
The two varsities are listed under the 10th Schedule of the AP Reorganisation Act. In the APSCHE matter, the High Court had ruled that all institutions located in TS belong to the state government and the AP government must enter into an agreement with the TS government for any services. The two varsities also wrote to the AP government saying the same and admissions of AP students were stopped.
On the request of AP, the Governor ordered both the varsities to maintain status quo. This ruffled a few feathers in the TS government.
Consequently, top TS government officials told the Governor that this was in contradiction to the High Court order. “We told him about the HC judgement and that it applies to all the 10th Schedule related institutions. We told the Governor that he is being misled in this matter,” top sources in the TS education ministry said.
It is clear in both the Reorganisation Act and the High Court judgement that AP government should enter into an agreement with us for services to be offered to them. But they are arguing that the High Court ruling is only about APSCHE,” top sources in the TS education ministry said.
Sources also said that the Governor said he would cross check the issue again with the AP government and get back to them. AP doesn’t have language and open universities yet since the two existing ones are located in TS.
