Mumbai: The Mumbai Cricket Association will identify 30 promising fast and spin bowlers and train them as part of the MCA-IDBI Federal Insurance Bowling Foundation. Concerned at the depleted bowling resources, the MCA has gone back to its tried and tested policy to unearth and groom natural talent and create a bowling pool.

With IDBI on board, the foundation will have a panel of expert coaches, which will be headed by former India bowler Balwinder Singh Sandhu. Former Indian team physio John Gloster has been appointed as fitness consultant.

Providing a big boost to the initiative, Dilip Vengsarkar, vice-president of MCA announced former Australia fast bowler Jeff Thomson would be part of the scheme as a visiting coach. Thomson will be in Mumbai for one month in September and will return again next year in May.
