Xiaomi in advance talks to set up plant
There are amid speculation that the Chinese handset maker would set up its factory in Telangana
Hyderabad: Chinese handset maker Xiaomi is in advanced talks with some state governments for setting up its first mobile manufacturing plant in India, said a top official on Friday.“We have decided to set up our manufacturing unit in India. It will be through contract manufacturing, either in partnership with our existing partners Foxconn or Inventec, or any other Indian manufacturer.
We have considered 10 states for setting up such a facility... Currently we are in advanced stage of talks and an announcement on the location will be made pretty soon,” said Manu Kumar Jain, head of India operations, Xiaomi Corporation.
Mr Jain’s visited Hyderabad amid speculation that the Chinese handset maker would set up its factory in Telangana. He, however, refused to confirm or deny it. Xiaomi is also planning to expand sales and aftersales network in India. “The company is also planning to develop its ecommerce portal in addition to its etail partners such as Flipkart, Amazon and Snapdeal even as expanding its exclusive service centres in the country,” he said.
