Bengaluru: Contractors fined for poor upkeep of graveyards

BBMP administrator slapped a penalty of Rs 25,000 against two contractors

BENGALURU: The BBMP administrator T.M. Vijay Bhaskar on Friday slapped penalty of Rs 25,000 each against two contractors for failing to maintain cleanliness and clear weeds from graveyards at Shantinagar and Kalpalli.

After inspecting Shantinagar crematorium, he said that the contractor has failed to ensure cleanliness as per the tender norms and levied a penalty against him. He also ordered to repatriate an assistant executive engineer Raghavendra to his parent department for failing to get things done from contractors.

He also inspected Kalpalli graveyard and expressed dissatisfaction for poor maintenance and slapped a penalty of Rs 25,000 against the contractor.

He directed officials to stop floating tenders for maintenance of graveyards and entrust the same to the horticulture department. The BBMP commissioner, G. Kumar Naik, said that comprehensive drive on cleaning up of roads and 40 graveyards were taken up at all the 28 constituencies.

After having a chat with pourakarmikas over a cup of tea, Naik assured them to release salary and other perks on time during the first week of every month. He inspected Freedom Park, Palace Road, Seshadri Road and surrounding areas.  

Besides, he directed officials to announce scholarship to meritorious children of pourakarmikas.
