Coimbatore: Hundreds of BJP party workers staged a protest across the district demanding total prohibition. They also staged protests in front of the Tasmac outlets. Several women got together demanding that Tasmac should be closed. They said that the sale of liquor by the state government is ruining the lives of the younger generation as there have been several incidents now wherein the young generation is taking to consumption of liquor.
The cadres raised slogans that they would continue to protest until the state government decides to shut down all the Tasmac outlets considering the welfare of the people.
The women protesters stated that the sale of liquor has been ruining the lives of their families as the men consumer liquor with all that they earn.
Consumption of liquor has also been causing health problems. The men are keener on spending on liquor rather than on their home. The Chief Minister who is a woman should work towards the welfare of the other women in the State, they echoed.
The party cadres added that the state is generating revenue out of Tasmac, which has been constantly claiming the lives of people. The younger generationis taking to the habit as early as in schools and by the time they reach their prime they are so addicted they become totally unproductive. Most Tasmac outlets are situated near schools and temples and it is condemnable that the state is making money out of selling “poison”, they echoed.
