Hyderabad: Expressing displeasure at the petitioner for wasting the court’s time by filing frivolous petition, the Hyderabad High Court on Friday dismissed a plea seeking its intervention to control black marketing of Baahubali movie tickets all over Telangana and AP states.
A division bench comprising Acting Chief Justice Dilip B. Bhosale and Justice S.V. Bhatt while dismissing the plea by Cine Preskhakula Viniyogadarula Sangham pointed out that petitioner has failed to place any material to prove its case.
The petitioner’s counsel G.L. Narasimha Rao said the action of the authorities in allowing the exhibitors to sell the tickets at exorbitant rates and also permitting them to run more than 4 shows per day was in violation to the provisions of Andhra Pradesh Cinemas (Regulation) Act 1955.
While urging the court to intervene in the matter, they also sought to ensure that no stampedes take place at theaters. The bench said “This is a strange plea. Did you want us to monitor the sale of tickets at theatre counters?”
Regarding apprehensions of stampede, the bench said it has faith in the ability of the police to control crowds and protect law and order.
Agri market yard panel term fixed
The Hyderabad High Court on Friday upheld the decision of the Andhra Pradesh state government in amending the AP (Agricultural Produce and Live Stock) Markets Act by which the term of members of Agricultural Market Committees was reduced from three years to one year.
A division Bench comprising acting Chief Justice Dilip B. Bhosale and Justice S.V. Bhatt dismissed a batch of petitions by chairpersons and members of various Agricultural Market Committees in AP.
The petitioners had contended that they were appointed to the posts in 2013 for a period of three years but had ceased to hold office following the state government’s decision.
They alleged that the government’s moves were politically motivated as it wanted to fill the posts with its people.
The government defended its action stating that the term of the office-bearers was governed by the Act and rules and petitioners did not have any vested or fundamental right to agitate.
Stampede, stone pelting hit Baahubali release in Hyderabad
The release of Baahubali on Friday led to a stampede and stone pelting near many theatres in the city. Police resorted to lathi charge to disperse the crowds. Aradhana theatre in Tarnaka, Ganesh theatre at Shamshabad and Vijayalaxmi theatre at LB Nagar witnessed unseemly incidents.
The public who were waiting outside theatres from Thursday night were shocked when housefull boards were displayed on Friday morning. Movie goers alleged that theatre managements had sold the tickets at high rates. Meanwhile, police on Friday arrested five persons for allegedly selling movie tickets in the black market and seized 150 tickets and cash from them.
Cine goers alleged that the managements colluded with online portals expecting illegal benefits. They sold tickets to agents and they are selling them in the black market for very high prices.
“If all the tickets are sold online, how is that people are selling tickets in black in the theatre premises. They are charging almost 10 times the ticket price,” said Celestine, who watched the movie at Vyjayanthi theatre in Nacharam.
